  2. self-propelled torpedo in 1866. He developed
  3. the torpedo in Austria and within two years
  4. of its invention was manufacturing 4 m/13 ft
  5. torpedoes which could carry a 9 kg/20 lb
  6. dynamite warhead at a speed of 7 knots,
  7. subsequently improved to 29 knots. They were
  8. powered by compressed air and had a balancing
  9. mechanism and, later, gyroscopic controls.
